US Office of Inspector General is Hiring a General Attorney Near Salt Lake, UT

Duties

The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Advises the OIG on matters relating to audits, inspections, and investigations of HHS programs and operations, as well as general administrative legal issues.
  • Conducts research involving the interpretation, application and enforcement of Department statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Participates in high level policy discussions regarding ethics and financial disclosure.
  • Provides training to OIG components and other stakeholders on ethics and financial disclosure.
  • Advises the OIG on matters involving Department programs, activities, employees, contractors and grantees.
  • Provides independent legal review, advice, and analysis relating to internal administration and operations of the OIG, including, but not limited to ethics and financial disclosure.

  • Registration with the Selective Service (if applicable).
  • Suitability for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • Two-year trial period may be required.
  • Must maintain membership and good standing with the bar association in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Qualifications

Positive Education Requirement: This position has a position education requirement, as indicated below. A complete transcript showing relevant coursework and degrees must be submitted with your application package. A list of completed courses or incomplete transcripts will not be accepted.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Applicants must have graduated with a Juris Doctorate (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and must be a current member, in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar association.
  • GS-12: Applicants must have one (1) year of professional legal experience post bar admission equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Experience may be outside of the Federal Government.
  • GS-13: Applicants must have two (2) years of professional legal experience post bar admission equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Experience may be outside of the Federal Government.
  • GS-14: Applicants must have three (3) years of professional legal experience post bar admission equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Experience may be outside of the Federal Government.
Highly qualified applicants will have experience as an attorney advising agencies (Federal, state, or local), individuals or entities on matters concerning ethics and financial disclosure.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume should include the dates of all qualifying experience (from month/year to month/year) and the number of hours worked/volunteered per week. Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

Education

Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
